Who we are
The Transformative Justice Alliance is a collective working to build an alternative to incarceration for cases of serious violence in Hennepin County.
We are community members who bring our diverse experiences, backgrounds, and expertise to the work of building responses to harm that prioritize healing, accountability, community, and racial justice. Our members are survivors of violence, justice impacted people, restorative justice practitioners, criminal legal experts, and community organizers. Our leadership team is majority Black, majority LGBTQ+, and diverse in terms of class and regional backgrounds.
Our Mission
The Transformative Justice Alliance is committed to building survivor-centered systems of justice grounded in healing, accountability, and transformation.
Our Vision
We envision a world in which:
Survivors of violence are:
Empowered to choose the response to harm that best supports their healing.
Provided with care and services to address the trauma they experienced.
People who caused violence:
Take accountability for the harm they caused, in ways that are chosen by and meaningful to survivors.
Demonstrate remorse by repairing the harm they caused as much as possible.
Transform their understanding of violence and commit to interrupting cycles of violence in their own lives and the lives of others.
Communities impacted by violence are:
Empowered to engage in reparative processes that ensure safety and dignity for survivors, responsible parties, and community members.
Provided with culturally-appropriate and racially-just care and services to heal from violence.
